WINE MAMA (42)

BUDS A BURSTING

(1 YEAR LATER)

NOW THAT BRIAN HAS FULLY RECOVERED FROM HIS GUNSHOT INJURY, HE HAS NOW WENT BACK TO WORK. SANDY HAS BEEN HELPING OUT WITH JOHN, LEARNING THE IN'S AND OUT'S OF RUNNING AND MANAGING THE BUSINESS

NEWS IS, THAT THE FIRST HARVEST OF THE GRAPES IS UPON THEM.
THE BUREAUCRACY AND POLITICS OF THE PROCESSORS LAYS AHEAD
THIS IS THE PART OF THE BUSINESS BRIAN IS NOT COMPLETELY OF KNOWLEDGE WITH, HOWEVER NOTHING HAS EVER STOPPED HIM BEFORE

OPENING SCENE: BRIAN SITTING IN OFFICE LOOKING OVER BOOKS

BRIAN

"Looks like we're going to have a damn good year after all."

JOHN

Yea, we sell many Gator Tail...very popular, just like you say..."

BRIAN

"Yea, but like everything else, the menu's are starting to get old...can't rest on our laurels have to keep reinventing it...you know, keep it fresh!"

JOHN

"Well, we could always look up new recipes on computer?"

BRIAN

"That's true, but you have to get permission from the author when your using it commercially, maybe even pay a fee, but always get permission...in writing, always in writing."

JOHN

"I understand, we get permission, but I want to help pick out new entrees, dinners...it's time we get motivated, I always be motivated!"

BRIAN

"By the way, what was it you wanted to talk about...I couldn't understand your email...it always comes out like gibberish?"

JOHN

"Sandy and me go over to the vineyard yesterday, the grapes are ready to harvest...what you want me to do now, you have game plan?"

BRIAN

"I guess...I don't know, I guess you harvest them, what is it that we do first, this kinda came at a surprise, with my therapy shit and everything?"

JOHN

"All I really do know...if you leave them on the trees for too long, the grapes fall on ground and ferment...birds eat them and get drunk...drunk birds are dangerous, they act crazy and attack everyone...this is not good...no safe..."

BRIAN

"Well, let me get on the horn...I'll call up that Sheffield place and see what they suggest we do!"

BRIAN GETTING ON PHONE

"Afternoon, this is Brian Cashman with the Hudson Vineyard her in Modesto...hey I'm looking to process some grapes, wanted to set up some time with your processor, where do we go with this?"

BILLY TOMPKINS-PROCESS MANAGER

"No man...you ferment the grapes...unless you just want to sell us the grapes, otherwise we just bottle them...haven't you done this before?"

BRIAN

"Actually no, this is my first round at this!"

BILLY

"Well, you buy you some wine vats if you want, clean the twigs and leaves off, get 'em washed down real good, get 'em squished down, separate the skins, then you start your fermentation, yeasting and stuff, just depends on what style your making, you might want to study that a little first...of course, you could just sell us the grapes, we'll take 'em off your hands, or you could put them up for auction, that's pretty hot...you know, it's all up to you?"

BRIAN

"Well, I really wasn't sure how to go with this, let me get back to you, bye!"

JOHN

"You know, I work over at Sheffield for a while, a couple of years...not a big deal, but you have to have the equipment, but pretty pricey for good stuff, you could just do the wood vats, all hand made, make good flavor, lot of work, but you said you wanted to make Port...you see your dream!"

BRIAN

"Yes, I did John, yes I did...I can't believe you use'd to make wine, your a man of many vices."

JOHN

"I also Jack of many trades, too...I outline what you need, you decide to make 'em or sell them off, I'm with you any way you want, you like family to me."

BRIAN

"Thanks man, what could I ever do without you?"

JOHN

"You'd fuck up, many times...I mean, I'm right here and you still manage to get in trouble..."

BRIAN

"This is true...I really need to work on that...

JOHN

"You try all you want, you still hopeless...I know you like brother, but I Love you anyway..."

BRIAN

"Yea, I do kind of scare myself, but it's going to get better, you'll see.

JOHN

"You go on head and try to get better...John keep eyes closed, fingers crossed!"

BRIAN

"Everybody doing their part, that's all you can ask for...oh well, time to get to work."

JOHN

"We go...Sandy prepping in kitchen, I'll tell her you better yourself, I help break news."

BRIAN

"Thanks my brother, I feel better already!"
